Understanding Child and Adolescent Therapy

The child therapists at Clarity Clinic specialize in a variety of methods focused on child development, family dynamics, and emotional regulation to assess the individual needs of the child and their families and identify treatment options that best fit them. Many times, children’s behavior or emotional concerns are the results of external factors, and through assessment and evaluation, our clinicians work with the entire family unit to identify strengths to focus on, as well as teach coping skills to reduce symptoms.

Why Choose Pediatric Therapy?

Childhood and adolescence are critical phases of development, shaping the foundation for a child's emotional and psychological well-being. Our Pediatric Therapy program is designed to address a wide range of concerns that children and adolescents may experience, including:

  • Anxiety and Stress: Help your child develop effective coping mechanisms and emotional regulation skills to manage anxiety and stressors they may encounter.
  • Behavioral Challenges: Our therapists work closely with parents and caregivers to address behavioral issues, providing strategies to promote positive behavior and family harmony.
  • Social Skills and Peer Relationships: Support your child in building healthy peer relationships, enhancing social skills, and improving communication.
  • Trauma and Grief: Our trauma-informed therapists are skilled in helping children process and heal from traumatic experiences and grief.
  • Attention and Focus: If your child struggles with attention deficit or hyperactivity, we offer tools and techniques to enhance focus and concentration.
  • Developmental Delays: Our therapists specialize in working with children who have developmental delays or disorders, providing interventions to support their unique needs.

Our Approach to Child and Adolescent Therapy

At Clarity Clinic, we believe in a child-centered and family-oriented approach to therapy. We recognize that every child is unique, and their growth and development are influenced by their environment, experiences, and relationships. Our therapists collaborate closely with children, adolescents, and their families to create tailored treatment plans that foster growth and well-being.

Play-Based Therapy

For younger children, play is a natural and powerful way to express themselves. Our therapists incorporate play-based interventions to engage children in a comfortable and therapeutic manner. Play therapy provides children with the opportunity to express themselves through a language that is more recognizable to them — play. With the aid of a play therapist, children can learn skills and tools to better understand and express their thoughts and emotions which can positively impact development.

Cognitive-Behavioral Techniques

We utilize evidence-based techniques, such as Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and play therapy, to help children develop healthy thought patterns and coping strategies.

Family Involvement

We value the role of families in a child's healing journey. Our therapists work closely with parents and caregivers, offering guidance and strategies to support their child's progress.

Skill Development

Through engaging in activities and exercises, children and adolescents learn practical skills to navigate challenges, communicate effectively, and regulate their emotions.

Safe and Supportive Environment

Our therapy sessions provide a nurturing and non-judgmental space where children can freely express their thoughts and feelings.

Holistic Growth

Our focus extends beyond symptom relief to foster holistic growth, empowering children to develop confidence, resilience, and emotional intelligence.

Child and Adolescent Assessments

Clarity Clinic’s child psychologists also offer a wide variety of psychological, cognitive, and psychoeducational testing services for children, adolescents, and teens.

  1. Psychological Testing: A psychological evaluation examines an individual’s behavior, intellectual functioning, academic abilities, self-concept, strengths, and socio-emotional adjustment.
  2. Evaluations: (including neuropsychological, biopsychosocial, and psychoeducational), offer patients a multi-disciplinary approach to diagnosis and treatment of developmental, emotional, learning, and behavioral disorders. A psychological evaluation can be used adjunctive to therapy to help gain diagnostic clarity and provide recommendations to improve the overall quality of life and emotional functioning of the child.
  3. Cognitive Testing: Cognitive testing is provided for individuals experiencing memory, attention, or learning difficulties to help identify potential neurological disorders that may be impacting cognitive functioning. Specific measures are selected to formulate a battery of assessments for the referral question.
  4. Psychoeducational Testing: Psychoeducational testing assesses an individual’s intellectual abilities (relative strengths and weaknesses), basic academic achievement (reading, writing, mathematics), and psychological screenings to provide information about potential learning disabilities or other disorders that might interfere with academic or occupational functioning. Psychoeducational evaluations may also be used as guidelines for academic accommodations.

Investing in Your Child's Future

Nurturing your child's mental well-being is one of the most valuable investments you can make. Our Pediatric Therapy treatment is dedicated to providing children and adolescents with the tools, skills, and support they need to thrive emotionally, socially, and academically.
