What is Counseling?

Counseling. Counseling is a collaborative effort between the psychotherapist and the client. Therapy guidance can assist in addressing and resolving personal, social, and/or psychological concerns or difficulties regarding work/life balance, relational concerns, and more. Clinicians at Clarity Clinic come from a positive, supportive strengths-based approach. We work together to meet you where you are. We can help you identify obstacles, goals, and potential solutions to address your concerns. Counselors seek to increase self-awareness and self-esteem, create or enhance existing positive coping skills, promote behavior change, and help move clients to a better place, closer to optimal health and well-being.

Counseling is a process where you can share your concerns in a non-judgmental environment. You can have a safe space to determine your goals and create a plan of action. This is a collaborative process, where the clinician works with you to create a treatment plan following your needs. We have heard that there has been a common misconception about counseling in that there has to be something wrong with you going to therapy. And that therapy is the place where your problems are “fixed”. Therapy is a place where you can go to see the bigger picture view or to find strategies and determine action steps to deal with difficult situations or environments. This concept applies whether you are dealing with a concern related to any area of your life including work, school, or home. Counseling can help you see multiple ways of looking at options and evaluate how events and situations are conceptualized from a more holistic view.

Why Seek Psychological Services?

Psychiatry and Therapy Services. Clinicians at Clarity Clinic incorporate various aspects of mental health and wellness ranging from coping with stress to career counseling to crisis management. The therapeutic process is an evolving and collaborative journey towards self-discovery. Therapy can assist you in recognizing and overcoming obstacles, gaining a greater understanding of situations or behaviors, and increasing self-care. Medication management can also be a valuable resource in your wellness journey. Our clinicians at Clarity Clinic will listen to your needs and serve as a supportive resources. At every level of the practice, our goal is to allow you to build upon your current skills, and work with you to facilitate positive practices to help reach your desired goals.

Relationship concerns. We know that close relationships can greatly support our overall well-being. But, what happens when the people closest to us are not providing that familiar sense of comfort and support? And how do we change this pattern? Many of us struggle at times throughout life to experience the connections that we are longing for in relationships. It can be difficult to make new friends, or navigate or figure out the best next steps in long-standing relationships. It often takes a big-picture view with a non-biased third party to change these situations or patterns. This is why Clarity Clinic offers relationship counseling for couples (pre-marital, spouse, or life- partners), friends, and families.

Can Counseling Help Address My Concern?

What concerns does counseling help with? Sometimes the exact problem can be difficult to determine, but you might have a general feeling that something is off. Counseling can help to unearth and address what is beneath the feeling of malaise or unease. One may feel restless or unsure of where to go next or what to change. We may notice a lack of meaning and purpose or a decline in general fulfillment as we manage daily tasks. Common signs that counseling may be helpful include difficulty concentrating or accomplishing regular tasks that you normally would complete. Career concerns can also be addressed in counseling sessions whether you need help addressing a difficult personality or support in instating boundaries to improve work-life balance. If you are experiencing excess stress consistently and it is not dissipating, despite your best efforts, counseling can assist you in creating a plan to address this. If you are experiencing the following issues or concerns including controlling anger, amplified or more frequent alcohol or drug use, increased feelings of sadness, depression, grief, and loss or helplessness counseling can help you address or determine the cause. Therapy can assist you in finding additional options and goals. Even if you are experiencing a concern that no matter what you try including requesting assistance from family and friends the situation or your feelings about it have not improved or changed.
