What Is Mania?

Mania is a mental health condition that falls under the umbrella of bipolar disorder. It is characterized by episodes of intense and prolonged periods of high energy, excitement, euphoria, and hyperactivity. Manic episodes typically last for a week or more and can be followed by periods of depression or normal moods.

During a manic episode, individuals may experience a wide range of symptoms, including:

  • Elevated or irritable mood
  • Increased energy and activity levels
  • Racing thoughts and difficulty concentrating
  • Decreased need for sleep
  • Impulsive behavior, such as overspending or risky sexual behavior
  • Increased talkativeness
  • Grandiosity or inflated self-esteem
  • Psychotic symptoms, such as delusions or hallucinations

Seek manic episode treatment as soon as possible. If left unchecked, manic episodes can be dangerous and even life-threatening. Individuals may engage in risky behaviors or experience psychotic symptoms, which can lead to hospitalization or other negative consequences.

Our Mania Treatment Options

Our mania treatment options are designed to help individuals with mania regain control over their lives and manage their symptoms. Our treatment options include a combination of therapy, medication management, and support services to ensure that each client receives individualized care that addresses their needs living with a mania.

Therapy

Therapy is a crucial component of treating mania mental illness. Our licensed therapists work with clients to identify the underlying causes of their mania and develop strategies to manage their symptoms. We use evidence-based therapies such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and psychodynamic therapy to help clients understand their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, and develop coping skills to manage their symptoms.

Medication Management

Medication is often an essential part of treating mania. Our psychiatrists work with each client to determine the best medication regimen to manage their symptoms. We closely monitor each client's medication to ensure that it is effective and that they do not experience any negative side effects. We also work with clients to educate them about their medications and the importance of following their treatment plans.
