Before we get started, let’s quickly touch on what an IOP program really is. An Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is a structured therapeutic treatment option designed for individuals who need more supportive mental healthcare without full-time hospitalization.
Typically, IOPs offer a more supportive level of care that includes multiple therapy sessions per week, which may consist of group, individual, and sometimes family counseling.
These programs are ideal for those transitioning from inpatient treatment or anyone requiring more support than traditional weekly therapy. IOP programs focus on helping you manage your daily lives while also addressing mental health concerns like depression, anxiety, stress, and other mood disorders.
The goal is to provide the right level of support to allow you make meaningful progress and reach your mental health goals.
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP programs) are designed to provide targeted treatment for a range of mental health disorders. Here are some of the primary conditions that IOPs can help manage:

PHP/IOP Information FormAttending an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) at Clarity Clinic provides a structured yet flexible treatment schedule, designed to fit around your daily life. Let’s walk through what happens in an intensive outpatient program together so you can know what to expect.
On your first day of the IOP program, you'll meet the treatment team and get an orientation to familiarize yourself with the program's structure and expectations. You’ll learn about the weekly schedule, including what specific group sessions you’ll be attending.
To make your experience as comfortable as possible, grab-and-go meals are provided each day for you to enjoy during your sessions.
The IOP program runs for three hours each day, from 4:30 pm to 7:30 pm, allowing you to attend after work or school. Depending on your specific needs, which are assessed at the beginning of your treatment, you’ll attend these sessions three to five times a week.
This schedule supports your ability to maintain your usual daily activities and responsibilities while receiving the care you need.
During a typical day in the IOP, you'll start by joining a group therapy session, which is a core component of the program. You’ll spend approximately 9 to 15 hours per week in these group sessions, engaging in discussions and activities that focus on recovery and skill-building.
Group sessions are designed to foster peer support and shared learning, essential aspects of the therapeutic process. In addition to group work, you will have individual therapy sessions scheduled at various times throughout your treatment.
These tailored sessions are crucial for addressing personal challenges and progress in a private setting. Some participants may also opt for medication management, which involves regular meetings with one of our psychiatrists to discuss and adjust any medications being used as part of your treatment plan.
In an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP program), a variety of therapeutic approaches are employed to address the diverse needs of participants. These therapies are carefully chosen to facilitate both personal growth and skill development, essential for managing everyday life challenges. Here’s a breakdown of the types of therapy typically used in IOP:

An IOP program (Intensive Outpatient Program) is a structured mental health program that provides support multiple times a week, while allowing them to maintain their daily lifes.
IOP programs typically require attendance 3 to 5 days per week, with the number of weeks varying based on individual progress and specific program structure.
If someone is engaged in onsite PHP treatment at Clarity Clinic, they will attend group treatment sessions for four hours a day, Monday through Friday. This allows participants to return home or to a supportive environment outside of treatment hours. In addition to the 20-hours a week of group work that this program requires, PHP will also require participants to set aside additional time for individual therapy, treatment planning sessions, psychiatric monitoring, and psychoeducation. PHP offers a higher level of support and structure than IOP.
We have two different times available for our onsite IOP program at our Chicago Loop location - morning and evening. IOP runs for 3 hours per day, three to five days per week depending on the participant's assessed needs. These hours are ideal for clients that have school, work, or family duties to attend to. In addition to the structured 9-15 hours a week of group work that this program requires, IOP will also require participants to set aside additional time for individual therapy, optional medication management, and psychoeducation.
If a client needs more support than the maximum amount of support available for IOP, they will likely be transitioned into a PHP program. IOP programming also differs from PHP programming in that clients may be able to continue working with their outpatient therapist while completing IOP treatment. That is not accessible for those who are in PHP.
The duration of your PHP/IOP treatment will vary based on your unique recovery progress, as every individual's needs are different. Learn more about our PHP & IOP program curriculum.

As we work towards our participation with your health insurance plans, we are accepting both self-pay and out-of-network patients for our Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). Our team is dedicated to assisting patients in navigating their insurance coverage and maximizing their benefits to ensure they receive the care they need to thrive. It is important to understand your benefits prior to starting your treatment.
Clarity Clinic Mokena also accepts self-pay for both our PHP/IOP programs. We understand that individuals may choose to pay for their treatment directly, and we accommodate self-pay options for those who prefer this method. Our goal is to ensure accessibility to our programs for individuals seeking comprehensive mental health support.
