Tips for Mastering Nervousness:

  • Deep breathing- When you are feeling nervousness, try to sit down, take a deep breath and close your eyes. Focus on your breath as it moves in and out of your body. Sitting and breathing for even just a minute can help.
  • Get to the root- Reflect on what is making you nervous in the first place. Is it a person, place, or thing? What is triggering your nervousness and what can you do to eliminate the trigger?
  • Get some rest- Sleep deprivation can increase your nervousness and impact your ability to deal with nervousness. Sleep gives the body's neurons a chance to shut down and repair themselves. Committing to healthy sleep over the long term can help reduce your nervousness.
  • Physical activity- Physical exercise regulates hormones, decreasing the amount of adrenaline produced within the body, which can help control levels of nervousness. Another bonus to physical exercise is the release of endorphins, the “feel-good” neurotransmitters, that improve your mood.
  • Find your inner confidence- What makes you stand up tall and strut your stuff? Discover your inner confidence and use it to get through difficult times in which you are the most nervous. When you believe in yourself, it can get you a long way.
  • Practice makes perfect- Practice, practice, practice! Nervousness is real and it takes a lot to master techniques to decrease or eliminate your nervousness. It will not happen overnight, but it can happen. Discover what works for you and practice using them on a daily basis. If your nervousness is consistent then so must the fight against it. Reach out to your support system, others that struggle like you, and even a professional if necessary. You do not have to do it alone!

If you’re a victim of your nervousness it is time to take your life back. No more letting your nervousness rule you, you are the boss and you are in charge!
