My passion lies in meeting the client where they are at, trying to see the world through their eyes, and working collaboratively with them to create a more fulfilled and satisfying life. I work with clients to identify what goals will help foster this transition, and to overcome barriers that stand in the way. I am confident that each client will gain the necessary tools to improve their mood, problem-solve, cope with future stressors, and flourish on their own after therapy has concluded.
I aim to create a nonjudgmental environment where the client feels heard, validated, and supported, in an effort to gain insight into their struggles and allow openness to change. My treatment mainly stems from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), as well as taking an insight-oriented approach; however, I remain flexible and tailor treatment to the individual needs of my client. We work to discover what current belief systems may be ineffective, and reframe thinking in a way that is most helpful. I also emphasize the importance of identifying what current strengths the client already possesses and build off these while moving forward. In addition, I encourage on-going work outside of the therapeutic setting which may include practicing DBT skills-training, behavioral activation, and creating/maintaining effective relationships with others.
Throughout my training and career, I’ve worked with diverse populations in a variety of settings including inpatient/outpatient mental health, academia, forensic, military, and vocational centers. I specialize in (but not limited to) treating adults and young adults with PTSD and other trauma and stressor-related disorders, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, issues with anger, relationship stressors, occupational stressors, problems with esteem, and difficulties adjusting to change. I earned my doctorate degree as well as master’s degree in clinical psychology at the Illinois School of Professional Psychology, in Chicago, IL. Prior to joining the Clarity Clinic team, I worked as a military psychologist treating military service members and their families. I also earned a master’s degree in criminal justice which helped familiarize me with the many social, legal, and systemic issues that may impact my clients. No matter where you feel you are currently at in life, I embrace the opportunity to go on this journey with you towards building the life that you want.
