Hello! My name is James “Jimmy” Nagai, and I am excited to be able to help you find your or your family’s pathway to growth. I am passionate about working with people to find options to help them make their own lives a little better, either day-to-day or toward a long-term goal. The cornerstones of my treatment philosophy are person-centered and strengths-based, to reinforce a person’s confidence and to guide a client to create their roadmap to healing.
I have worked with children, family, and adults with a variety of methods including CBT (Cognitive Based Therapy), art and expression-based therapy, play based therapy, motivational interviewing and Solution Focused brief interventions in session and case management for outside support, and consultations with school and IEP teams to support everyone in the client’s life. Looking forward, I am excited to look for more cutting-edge therapies and how to apply old and new ideas to both children and adult clients.
My career in mental health began when I studied Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, and Family Development while in college at the University of Dayton-Ohio, and continued as I completed my Master of Social Work degree with a focus on Children and Family at Loyola University Chicago. I have worked in a variety of settings including social service agencies, state departments, and community mental health clinics. On a personal scale, I adore music and have played an instrument for 11 years and enjoy seeing more of the world through travel and learning. I love both seeing the sights of a new place and looking into why cultures and people think in certain ways and what their values are.
