Experience Intensive Outpatient (IOP) and Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP) designed to offer compassionate care for individuals experiencing acute psychiatric symptoms or managing mental health disorders. Our programs feature:
Explore how our specialized PHP and IOP programs can assist you or your loved ones in achieving better mental health and wellness.

A Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) provides a more intensive treatment than an IOP program. Participants attend group treatment sessions for four hours a day, five days a week, allowing participants to return home or to a supportive environment outside of treatment hours. PHP offers a higher level of support and structure than an IOP program. In addition to the 20-hours a week of group work that this program requires, PHP treatment will also require participants to set aside additional time for individual therapy, treatment planning sessions, family/support persons therapy as recommended, and psychiatric monitoring.

Clarity Clinic's Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) involves participants attending group treatment sessions for three hours a day, three to five days a week depending on the participant's assessed needs. This allows IOP treatment participants to return home or to a supportive environment outside of treatment hours. In addition to the structured 9-15 hours a week of group work that this IOP program requires, participants will also need to set aside additional time for individual therapy and optional medication management.

Our Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) provides a more comprehensive level of care compared to our IOP Program. Our PHP Program takes place from 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday, 20 hours per week. Depending on the individuals situation, it is often recommended that they take a leave from school and/or work to focus primarily on their mental health treatment.

Patients participate daily in a blend of group and individual therapy sessions led by our licensed therapists. In addition to the 20-hours a week of group work that this program requires, PHP will also require participants to set aside additional time for individual therapy, treatment planning sessions, family/support persons therapy as recommended, and psychiatric monitoring.

Your first day will include meeting your treatment team, getting acclimated to the program and what to expect from your treatment, and joining the group setting. You will also receive information on the program and details about the weekly schedule and what groups to expect. Please note, grab-and-go meals will be provided daily for you to enjoy during your group sessions.

PHP treatment provides a structured and supportive environment where patients can engage in intensive therapy and treatment while still maintaining connections with their daily lives.

With PHP treatment, individuals receive comprehensive care tailored to their specific needs, including group therapy, individual counseling, optional medication management, and skill-building exercises

PHP programs can offer a higher level of support than traditional outpatient therapy, allowing patients to address their mental health challenges in a therapeutic setting while still having the flexibility to return home each day.

PHP also serves as a crucial step in the recovery process, helping individuals develop coping strategies, build resilience, and establish a strong foundation for long-term mental wellness.

Clarity Clinic's Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) offers a short term treatment approach with sessions lasting three hours per day, three to five days per week depending on the participant's assessed needs. Patients can prioritize their mental health while still managing work, school, and daily responsibilities at home.

In addition to the structured 9-15 hours a week of group work that this program requires, IOP will also require participants to set aside additional time for individual therapy, treatment planning sessions, family/support persons therapy as recommended, and psychiatric monitoring.

With IOP treatment, patients can maintain their daily routines, including work, school, and family commitments, while receiving comprehensive therapeutic care.

The structured nature of IOP treatment sessions provides a supportive environment for addressing mental health challenges, offering a combination of individual therapy, group therapy, and skill-building activities.

Our IOP program equips individuals with coping strategies, enhances their support network through group interaction, and fosters a sense of community.

IOP serves as a vital step in the recovery journey, providing a transition between more intensive treatment settings and independent living while offering ongoing support and relapse prevention strategies.
At our mental health clinic, we understand that each individual's journey and mental health objectives are unique. Our dedicated team is committed to assisting you in selecting the treatment program that aligns best with your specific needs.

Clarity Clinic stands out as an ideal destination for completing PHP and IOP programs for several reasons:

Beyond offering structured and comprehensive programs to address acute psychiatric symptoms and mental health disorders, we provide additional layers of support. Patients have the option to seamlessly transition into in-house therapy during or after completing their program, ensuring continuity of care and ongoing support tailored to their needs.

Clarity Clinic offers Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) therapy, a cutting-edge treatment for depression, which can be seamlessly integrated into the patient's treatment plan if necessary.

This holistic approach ensures that individuals receive comprehensive care and support throughout their recovery journey, making Clarity Clinic a trusted and reliable destination for mental health treatment.

At Clarity Clinic we are committed to making high quality behavioral health services accessible to our patients. We are dedicated to working with you to decrease as many barriers to treatment as possible.

When you are ready to explore if our program may be a good fit for you, a member of the Clarity Clinic team will reach out to your insurance company to obtain your insurance eligibility information and review this information with you directly.
Our PHP and IOP Programs are in-network with Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, Cigna, and UnitedHealthcare, making it easier for you to access the care you need. Navigating the insurance system can be overwhelming, and we are here to help you understand the financial side of treatment as best as possible. Once we have your insurance information, we can verify the “out of network” benefits that are available to you through your insurance plan.
If you do not have out of network benefits, Clarity can advocate for what is called a Single Case Agreement (SCA) with your insurance provider. If the single case agreement is not an option, we can provide additional resources to you or discuss private pay options.

You are your best advocate with your insurance provider, and we encourage you to reach out to your insurance company directly to understand your plan.

To verify your benefits, you can contact your insurance card via the number on the back of your card and advise “I’m calling to verify my (in-network or out of network) benefits for PHP and IOP general mental health services.”

If you are having difficulty getting the information you need, another option is to call your insurance company’s ‘Health Advocate’ or ‘Case Manager’ department. These insurance representatives are available to help you understand your benefits. There should be a number on the back of your insurance card to contact.

The difference between a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) and an Intensive Outpatient Program (PHP) is that PHP provides a more intensive treatment and level of care than an IOP, typically requiring individuals to take a break from work or school. In contrast, IOP is less intensive, allowing individuals to maintain their daily routines while attending group sessions for a few hours several times per week.
With a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), participants attend group treatment sessions for four hours a day, five days a week, allowing participants to return home or to a supportive environment outside of treatment hours. In addition to the 20-hours a week of group work that this program requires, PHP will also require participants to set aside additional time for individual therapy, treatment planning sessions, family/support persons therapy as recommended, and psychiatric monitoring.
Clarity Clinic's Intensive Outpatient Program (PHP) involves participants attending group treatment sessions for three hours a day, three to five days a week depending on the participant's assessed needs. This allows participants to return home or to a supportive environment outside of treatment hours. In addition to the structured 9-15 hours a week of group work that this program requires, IOP will also require participants to set aside additional time for individual therapy and optional medication management.
Both PHP and IOP programs aim to stabilize individuals in need of additional mental health support by providing comprehensive psychiatric and therapeutic care, teaching coping skills and recurrence management strategies, and supporting individuals in their wellness journey. These programs offer an alternative to inpatient hospitalization and serve as either a step-up for individuals who require additional support but do not necessitate the intensity of an acute care setting, or as a step-down from an acute care setting, allowing individuals to receive the support they need while maintaining connections to their communities and support networks.

PLEASE NOTE: Our PHP/IOP programs do not treat individuals with active substance addiction or non-stabilized eating disorders. Clarity Clinic specializes in treating mood and other mental health disorders, such as depression and anxiety, and offers care for individuals in recovery.
At Clarity Clinic, our PHP/IOP programs are dedicated to providing comprehensive care for individuals struggling with anxiety, depression, or emotional dysregulation. Through our specialized programs and the use of dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), we prioritize evidence-based treatments and therapeutic modalities tailored to meet the unique needs of each individual.
Our team of experienced clinicians and mental health professionals are committed to offering a supportive and nurturing environment where patients can explore underlying issues, learn coping skills, and develop effective strategies to manage symptoms. With a focus on holistic healing and personalized care plans, our PHP/IOP programs strive to empower individuals on their journey toward mental wellness and recovery.
Clarity Clinic's PHP and IOP programs are in-network with the following PPO plans: Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS), Aetna, Cigna, and UnitedHealthcare (UHC), making it easier for you to access the care you need.
We also accept select HMO plans from BCBS and Cigna, but a referral and prior authorization are needed before starting care. Not sure where to start? Don’t worry - our team is here to help make the process as smooth as possible! Feel free to reach out with any questions.

Upon expressing interest in our PHP/IOP services, our intake coordinators will conduct a thorough evaluation lasting between 60 to 90 minutes. Following this assessment, you will receive a comprehensive evaluation report detailing expert recommendations on the most suitable treatment approach for you. As treatment progresses, programs can be modified from PHP to IOP or vice versa to ensure the best fit for your evolving needs.
If someone is engaged in onsite PHP treatment at Clarity Clinic, they will attend group treatment sessions for four hours a day, Monday through Friday. This allows participants to return home or to a supportive environment outside of treatment hours. In addition to the 20-hours a week of group work that this program requires, PHP will also require participants to set aside additional time for individual therapy, treatment planning sessions, psychiatric monitoring, and psychoeducation. PHP offers a higher level of support and structure than IOP.
We have two different times available for our onsite IOP program at our Chicago Loop location - morning and evening. IOP runs for 3 hours per day, three to five days per week depending on the participant's assessed needs. These hours are ideal for clients that have school, work, or family duties to attend to. In addition to the structured 9-15 hours a week of group work that this program requires, IOP will also require participants to set aside additional time for individual therapy, optional medication management, and psychoeducation.
If a client needs more support than the maximum amount of support available for IOP, they will likely be transitioned into a PHP program. IOP programming also differs from PHP programming in that clients may be able to continue working with their outpatient therapist while completing IOP treatment. That is not accessible for those who are in PHP.
The duration of your PHP/IOP treatment will vary based on your unique recovery progress, as every individual's needs are different. Learn more about our PHP & IOP program curriculum.
Yes! Clarity Clinic offers a Virtual Intensive Outpatient Program (Virtual IOP). Our virtual IOP for mental health allows us to deliver high quality treatment to those who are unable to attend an IOP program in person or who prefer to receive IOP services at home. Our online IOP runs for three hours per day (4:30pm - 7:30pm), five days per week, with a minimum attendance requirement of three days per week based on the patient's assessed needs.

In terms of our Partial Hospitalization Program (PPHP), right now this is only onsite. There are, however, a few exceptions to this:
In the future, we plan to offer virtual PHP programming too.
PHP/IOP programs offer several benefits for individuals seeking mental health treatment including:
One of the invaluable benefits of participating in an PHP/IOP program at Clarity Clinic is the opportunity to engage in a group setting with individuals facing similar challenges. Additionally, being surrounded by peers who understand the struggles firsthand provides a sense of solidarity and comfort, knowing that you're not alone in your journey toward wellness. The shared experiences foster a supportive environment where participants can openly express themselves, offer mutual encouragement, and gain insights from others' perspectives. This group dynamic promotes connection, empathy, and a sense of belonging, which are essential elements in the healing process.
Overall, PHP/IOP programs empower individuals to actively engage in their recovery journey, equipping them with coping skills, support networks, and strategies to manage mental health challenges effectively. Learn more about our PHP & IOP program curriculum.
When someone completes PHP treatment, they will likely step down to IOP and when someone completes IOP treatment, they will likely step down to outpatient therapy.
At Clarity Clinic, our commitment to comprehensive care extends beyond PHP/IOP treatments. Upon completion of PHP/IOP, we seamlessly transition our clients to ongoing support by connecting them with a Clarity Clinic prescriber for continued medication management. Additionally, clients have the option to work with a personal therapist simultaneously if they desire. One benefit of Clarity Clinic’s PHP/IOP programs is that we prioritize coordination of care, ensuring that our clients receive holistic support tailored to their individual needs.
For those grappling with depression, we offer Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) therapy as an adjunct treatment option, providing comprehensive care under one roof. At Clarity Clinic, we prioritize your mental health journey by offering integrated services to support your ongoing wellness and recovery.
Not an existing Clarity Clinic patient? No problem! Our Clarity Clinic patient care team will collaborate with your existing outpatient team to provide a seamless transition back to your preferred provider upon your discharge from our PHP/IOP program.
Don't have an existing outpatient team? We'll make sure you are connected with one prior to your discharge.
