My fascination with the interplay between the mind and brain is what first drew me to medicine. While the physical brain can be examined in many ways, the human mind is still best understood through a discussion of thoughts and feelings between patient and doctor.
Effective treatment starts with a productive conversation. I ensure my patients feel heard, accepted and understood in order to make them feel more comfortable sharing difficult details and sensitive concerns. This in turn allows me to gain the most meaningful information about the patient’s symptoms and needs so I can create a treatment plan most suitable for them.
I received my medical degree from Rush Medical College in Chicago. I trained in adult psychiatry at the University of Illinois Hospital and then completed a fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry at Yale University. I am double-boarded, with certifications in both adult psychiatry and child and adolescent psychiatry.
Following my training, I worked for many years as a clinician and assistant professor in the department of psychiatry at Rush University Medical Center. More recently, I spent several years at the Yellowbrick Treatment Center in Evanston, IL, where I was part of a team that provided psychiatric and therapeutic treatment to young adults struggling to emerge into independent adulthood.
I have a clinical focus on evidence-based assessment and treatment. I specialize in mood and anxiety disorders, psychotic disorders, OCD, ADHD, trauma, personality disorders, and autistic spectrum disorders. My many years of experience treating patients of all ages makes me well-equipped to provide excellent treatment and support. I personalize treatment to each patient and work with them to reach their personal goals. Providing an environment in which they feel comfortable, heard, and understood is very important to me.
