I have my undergraduate degree from Denison University and my master’s in counseling from DePaul University. I decided to enter the helping profession after spending some time thinking about what I want to do after leaving Denison. I recognized that the thing that has been the most rewarding in my life is helping others, and that counseling offers me the best opportunity to put my skills to good use. During my career I gained clinical experience at Alexian Brothers Behavioral Health Hospital in the Adolescent Partial Hospitalization Program. I conducted group work, intake interviews, family meetings under supervision, and co-case managed patient caseloads. During my time at Alexian Brothers, I worked with patients suffering from depression, anxiety, substance use, bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, autism, among other diagnoses. I am trained in the utilization of CBT and DBT treatment modalities. My approach to therapy is very patient-centered. I believe patients are experts on themselves, and it is my job as a clinician to meet my clients where they are at. I strive to help patients gain a broader understanding of their current situation through psychoeducation in sessions which patients are encouraged to contribute to the discussions. Psychoeducation can be tremendously valuable, as oftentimes patients are able to see they are not alone in their struggles and experiences. My goal in therapy is to have a safe environment fostered for my clients. I make it clear to patients that respect and confidentiality are of the utmost importance.
