As a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, Virginia Harren uses an integrative and holistic approach to therapy. She has been trained in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical-Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT). She provides a warm, calm, safe, and comfortable environment to support clients in their self-exploration and progress towards reaching their goals. Overall, she considers herself to be a generalist when it comes to specialties. However, she does have experience working with eating disorders and children/adolescents. Virginia balances the art of being calm, focused and attentive all while being blunt and honest with her clients when she needs to. She is intrigued with the how humans can follow similar behavioral patterns and have similar emotional responses to specific situations, but also be so unique in their own perceptions and personalities. All of this observation is pulled from years of working in variety of settings including community mental health, residential treatment centers, psychiatric inpatient units, and partial hospitalization programs. She received her Master’s degree in Clinical Counseling from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. When it comes to working with children, Virginia works with those who are experiencing trouble at school, behavioral issues, social issues such as being bullied at school which can lead to feeling anxious or depressed, and those experiencing ADHD. With over 10 years of experience working with children and 15 years in the mental health field, she has seen a consistent struggle with stress and anxiety, and they don't know how to handle it or what to do. Virginia prides herself in being that source of support and guidance. She has always enjoyed working with kids as she is passionate about making a significant impact to foster further development and improve their adult relationships. Virginia is also passionate about working with those living with eating disorders. Ever since Virginia was a teenager herself she has been intrigued by learning everything she could about eating disorders: how it takes hold and wreaks havoc in people's lives, and how it can be a very destructive disorder. She see's both a combination of both binge eating and anorexia, and she is on a mission to educate the community on how eating disorders are more prevalent than people think. A lot of individuals show symptoms but don't get help, and the challenge is to create a game plan to accept your own body image while enduring societal pressure. When she's not working with clients, you can find her enjoying long hikes in nature, cooking new recipes and finding a new travel destination.
