Oftentimes people seek advice from friends and family but because there is already an established relationship there, plus the other person already has their own personal feelings or ideas about people or choices in one’s life. This makes it difficult for the client to reap the benefits of an outsider’s perspective. Through treatment, I help be that outsider’s perspective and provide a nonjudgmental, safe environment for the client to work through difficult problems and lead a healthy, empowered life.
Therapy can be beneficial to someone who is struggling emotionally or needs to sort out day-to-day problems. It can also assist a person to define their goals, gain coping skills, and clarify what they want out of life. I help improve communication skills to convey emotions and develop relationships along with setting boundaries that help you stay connected to your values.
I have worked in a variety of treatment settings and with a wide array of people and ages. I have clinical experience in an inpatient mental health hospital, several years of experience working with people with developmental disabilities, and supporting adults who struggle with substance use. I believe that every person is an individual and therefore has individual needs, desires, and wants. These factors are what will drive the client and counselor to agree on a treatment plan that will pull from various treatment modalities that fit the individual’s best interest. Some of these modalities include cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, mindfulness-based interventions, as well as acceptance and commitment therapy. My specialties include addiction/substance abuse, anger management, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, life transitions, autism, and stress management. Gender, culture, sexuality, race, socioeconomic class, and religion are all considered and tailored to each client.
