My passion for therapy stems from my unique ability to create an environment that helps clients establish a deep connection with themselves, their needs, core values, and passions in life. I understand that people are the masters of their own experiences and intuitively know what’s best for them.
I hold a Master’s degree in Social Work and specialize in working with young and middle-aged adults. I have in-depth experience in individual and group counseling in the areas of alcohol and other drug use, depression, anxiety, relationship concerns, trauma, abuse, grief, loss, shame and doubt, as well as identity struggles. I have helped many patients with diverse identities, including poly/non-monogamous, lesbian, gay, bisexual, queer, gender diverse and sex workers. Being a dancer and dance instructor myself, I have a unique perspective in being a part of and working with the artist and counterculture population. I often incorporate somatic work into my practice by using the sensory organs as data points connecting us to the present moment.
I view the therapeutic process as a co-creation between patient and practitioner, both providing information and tools to help build a roadmap, illuminating the way forward. I believe that our discomfort has something to teach us, yet oftentimes we become stuck in unhelpful thought patterns or behaviors that move us further away from our valued life direction. I hold all people in unconditional positive regard and provide a warm environment for individuals to practice and challenge behaviors that might not be best serving them. I honor the complexity of the individual and tailor my work with each patient to fit personal needs. I help identify solutions to problems through a holistic lens including identifying healthy eating habits, sleep routine and lifestyle wellness. I believe in an empowerment and strengths-based approach. My theoretical framework is derived from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Mindfulness/Meditation as appropriate.
